Great Abaco Island
The Abacos are a group of islands and cays that form a 120-mile–long chain stretching over 650 square miles. The coastlines are scalloped with bays, coves and protected harbors that feature full-service marinas and resorts. Great Abaco Island and Little Abaco serve as the “mainland”. Marsh Harbour has a lively downtown area with all city amenities. Treasure Cay boasts miles of pristine beaches, including one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Elbow Cay and Green Turtle Cay are old English loyalist settlements, where you’ll find beautifully preserved colonial architecture with a touch of Bahamian pastels, of course. And Guana Cay is famous for Sunday barbecues atop the island’s tall sand dune, which overlooks a magnificent 7-mile–long beach.
Our host partner, Green Turtle Club, is centrally located on the three mile long island on White Sound Harbor, accessible on the west side. The Town of New Plymouth, home to the island’s 500 or so residents, is at the southern tip, and a short golf cart commute from The Green Turtle Club.
There’s no shortage of amazing activities in and around the club within walking distance or just a short golf cart ride away. Visit the historic town of New Plymouth, swim, snorkel or charter your own boat and island-hop, fish and dive. In terms of weather, the average temperature in the Bahamas in March is 66 to 81°F (19 to 27°C) and the average ocean temperature is 75°F (24°C). Nights tend to cool down a bit, but the days are warm.
Interested in attending the event, but want do your own thing off resort in a beautiful beach villa? Maybe even with an extended group of family and friends? There are so many options within walking distance or a short golf cart ride of the resort.
Golf carts are the primary mode of transportation for many of the island locals and are a great way to explore our quaint, relaxed laid back island. Most golf carts carry up to four passengers and are equipped for night time travel. Any licensed driver over the age of 18 can drive the cart on Green Turtle Cay. Just remember… we drive on the left side of the road in the Bahamas! D&P Cart Rentals are conveniently located at the Green Turtle Club, and if you identify yourself as a Devour! guest they will offer a discount of 10% off your rental!
