Devour! The Food Film Fest announces 2016 call for entry

Wolfville, N.S. (February 2, 2016) – Filmmakers from around the work are invited to submit entries to Devour! The Food Film Fest, the world’s largest food film festival. The sixth edition of the Wolfville-based festival will run from November 2-6, 2016. Film submissions can be made through Film Freeway until June 24, 2016.

“2015 saw more than 250 films submitted to Devour! for consideration – from Nova Scotia, Canada and around the world,” says Michael Howell, executive director of Devour! “In 2016, we anticipate even more films and filmmakers, more industry engagement and more enthusiasm from the global film community.”

Devour! The Food Film Fest has quickly evolved into one of the most anticipated autumn events across the country. Highlighting Nova Scotia’s vibrant arts scene and growing culinary prowess, the festival continues to help establish Wolfville, with accolades such as “the Napa of the North” and “Canada’s Secret Foodie Destination” continuously being bestowed on the region.

In 2015, Devour! successfully presented their largest program to date including 79 unique events over five days featuring 40+ chefs, 20+ workshops, 15+ tasting tours, more than a dozen dinners, parties and events, and over 75 new food and wine films from all over the world.

Wrapping up the five-day November festival in 2015 were the coveted Golden Tine Awards celebrating the very best of the film festival in five different categories – Best Short Documentary, Best Short Animation, Best Short Drama, Best Feature Drama and Best Feature Documentary. During the fifth edition, Cheese (Hannah Cheesman), Ain’t No Fish (Mike Cash & Tom Gasek), Cheese (Cáis) (Tanya Doyle), Happy 140 (Gracia Querejeta), Good Things Await (Phie Ambo) were chosen by an esteemed jury led by Sonoma International Film Festival’s Steve Shor. These films have screened as part of an ongoing Best of Devour! program.

“Last year Devour! experienced a huge growth spurt as we welcomed our largest delegation of visiting filmmakers to date,” says Lia Rinaldo, managing director of Devour! “It was a pleasure to host them here and watch them mingle and bond with chefs and other industry delegates from around the world.”
