Wolfville, N.S. (November 2, 2016) – With the picturesque Town of Wolfville and Acadia University as its backdrop, the sixth edition of Devour! The Food Film Fest is set to kick off in grand style tonight at the Opening Gala Evening featuring the World’s Best Female Chef, Dominque Crenn. In a room filled with industry titans, Devour! directors Michael Howell and Lia Rinaldo look forward to serving up a taste of what has made this event the largest food and film festival in the world.
“We are delighted to host many of our friends, fans, supporters, filmmakers and culinary sensations from around the world in Wolfville over the next five days,” says Michael Howell, executive director of Devour! “Tonight’s Opening Gala Evening encompasses everything that our festival is about – pairing local culinary talent and ingredients with films to create the ultimate sensory exploration.”
Presented by Taste of Nova Scotia, 13 of Nova Scotia’s preeminent chefs will come together to create a feast for the senses at the Opening Gala Reception. Participating chefs include: Charlie Burtt (The Port Pub), Chris Velden (The Flying Apron Inn & Cookery), Howard Selig (Valley Flaxflour), Ingrid Dunsworth (The Cake Lady), Jonathan Joseph (Argyler Lodge and Restaurant), Julie Cook (Agricola Street Brasserie), Kim Magistro (Restaurant Avalon at Castle Rock Country Inn), Mark Gray (Battery Park Beer Bar & Eatery), Martin Ruiz Salvador (Half Shell Oysters & Seafood), Mike McKinnon (Acadia University), Renée Lavallée (The Canteen), Shane Robilliard (Fox Harb’r Resort) and Steph Ogilvie (Brooklyn Warehouse). Guests will also be treated to drinks from 12 local purveyors. This signature Devour! event inducts all visiting delegates and guests into l’Ordre du Bontemps (The Order of Good Cheer), the oldest social club in North America, as honorary ambassadors of Nova Scotia.
Following the reception, as part of Devour! tradition, guests are invited to enjoy a special screening or Haute Cuisine (Les saveurs du Palais) at the Opening Gala Film. Selected by Chef Dominique Crenn as her favourite food film-of all time, Crenn will take the stage to introduce the film to the audience. Following the screening, Crenn will join the evening’s host, Food Network star Bob Blumer, for a post-screening interview and audience Q&A session.
This is Crenn’s first time in Nova Scotia, who is looking forward to exploring the region and trying the province’s famed donair.
“Over the years, festival guests have continued to express their love for the wide-range of event options in our program,” says Lia Rinaldo, managing director of Devour! “This year’s program expands on this idea with over 90 unique events taking place. From start to finish, Devour! offers a little something for everyone.”
