Devour! is keenly aware of the current fisheries situation in Nova Scotia and has been in close contact with Chief Sidney Peters and our festival partner, Glooscap First Nation, for several weeks on this issue as it develops. Based on consultation with and advice from Chief Peters, but also cognizant of immense pressure on all sides to resolve the issue, we have decided to cancel the Lobster Roll Take-Away Supper. Devour! supports the treaty rights of the Mi’kmaq people to have an Indigenous fishery.

Tickets holders can receive a refund or receive a charitable receipt by donating to Devour! (The Slow Motion Food Film Fest Society) where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Indigenous initiatives at Acadia University.

“The lobster industry is important to the Nova Scotia economy. However, we understand that how the food and hospitality industry in Canada is showing solidarity with the Mi’kmaq is to create a moratorium on commercial lobster sale. The current situation in Southwest Nova is illustrating the importance of dialogue and reconciliation. We are all treaty people.

We’ve had extensive conversations with Devour! in the last month on this event, and ultimately their decision to cancel the lobster dinner this year. We look forward to continuous collaboration with Devour!.”

– Chief Sidney Peters, Glooscap First Nation
