FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wolfville, NS (October 31, 2013) – Devour! The Food Film Fest’s program promises food at every touchpoint from the opening scene at the Five Senses Gala to the closing credits at the Dessert Showcase. Over five days, from November 13-17, more than a dozen delicious food events will be served up throughout Wolfville as part of the festival.
“Whether on screen, in your hand or in your belly, this collision of food and art will satisfy every craving,” says Chef Michael Howell, Executive Director of Devour! Festival partner and Managing Director, Lia Rinaldo, agrees. “Our region’s top chefs, market vendors, mixologists, and food trucks will build decadent dishes and drinks throughout the entire festival.”
The Five Senses Opening Gala features 12 of Nova Scotia’s finest chefs, hosted by The Food Networks’s Bob Blumer, to create an event for the senses. The menus feature local food and includes braised pork belly, crispy fried scallops, beef short ribs, smoked apricot duck breast, veal stuffed brioche, Chedabucto Bay shrimp and much more.
The following nights, three national chefs paired with three Wolfville chefs will create decadent five-course meals inspired by the films in the showcase. This includes Ottawa’s preeminent Chef Michael Blackie joining forces with Chef David Smart of Front and Central for a celebration of modern cuisine inspired by the film “Now, Forager.”
The Select Nova Scotia Food Truck Rally will also be hitting the streets with the hottest food rage in North America serving up fast, delicious, accessible food from the Nomad Gourmet, Tin Pan Alley and The Food Wolf.
From Friday until Sunday, the festival sees a special Devour! themed return of the Wolfville Magic Winery Bus with the addition of great Cajun food from Le Caveau Restaurant onboard. It also adds the new All You Need is Cheese Express sponsored by Dairy Farmers of Canada which runs daily throughout the festival. Both tours showcase the beauty of Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley along with local and international wine and some of the Canada’s best cheeses.
A cocktail pop-up party will take place at the Old Orchard Inn with cocktails inspired by the film, Hey Bartender, served up by one of Halifax’s most renowned mixologists, Jeffrey Van Horne. Visitors can also create their own cinematic brunch at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market by choosing from the creations of 10 market chefs and farmers.
The Sweet Hereafter: Awards Presentation & Desserts Showcase will feature Chef Don Mailman and the culinary students of NSCC Kingstec preparing an extraordinary sweet finish to Devour! to close out the festivities.
